Ten years ago, following the devastation wreaked by the Indian Ocean tsunami, ManpowerGroup partnered with HOPE Foundation to build the Manpower Vocational Technical Centers (MVTCs) in India’s Tamil Nadu State, one of the hardest hit areas. This investment continues to deliver results, helping thousands of area residents, especially women, find new sustainable sources of income. The centers have transformed the lives of women by training them for roles in traditionally male-dominated industries and providing micro-financing to start their own small businesses. MVTCs programs have also benefited people with disabilities, helping them develop skills that enable them to support themselves and their families. Local men are also taking advantage of opportunities to develop marketable skills in areas such as computers, welding, electrical maintenance and cell phone repair. Over the past 10 years, more than 10,000 people have completed training programs, with the majority going on to find jobs, start businesses or further academic studies.
